The Bajareque Technology

The Polypus Bajareque technology uses lateritic stabilized clay ("earth concrete"), reinforced with a treated wood structure. The structural wood is treated with a preservative to protect the wood from rot, rodents, humidity and termites. This wooden frame combined with the "earth concrete" forms a monolithic bearing wall of about 15 centimeters thick, offering significant resistance to seismic shocks while keeping its natural and excellent thermal performance. This composite structure of wood and "earth concrete" is capable of supporting the stress loads, live and dead, of a three-storey building. It has also been developed to resist the damaging forces of earthquakes, hurricanes, sandstorms and other extremes of nature.

The Bajareque System can be utilized for single-family or multiple unit housing developments as well as a complete range of commercial and industrial low-rise complexes. Specialty applications include refugee camps. It is considered earth friendly, fully ecologically acceptable, and it is a cost effective solution to the problems of affordable housing in most equatorial areas of the world.

A significant advantage of the the Bajareque System is the rapidity with which construction can be completed. For example, a team of 4 to 6 unskilled workers with a minimum amount of training can build a complete house of 40 square meters within a period of four (4) weeks! As well, the Bajareque System can offer significant savings in both start-up time and in material expenses. The total costs, when compared to the cost of construction of buildings built with the same finishes but from reinforced concrete or load bearing masonry walls, is significantly lower.

The Bajareque System is also equally adaptable to low, medium or luxury housing, and can also readily be applied to commercial complexes, hotels and resorts. It is also equally suited to the development of complete communities as well as to urban "infill" development and urban revitalization through reconstruction.
